The Onward Road

There is a song within us that never dies, the rhythm may change and the melody may vary with our life but it is our song, and it never ends.

In life, we meet a myriad people and some share our song, through fate or by family. Their song may be similar to ours through blood ties and nurture,harmonizing with our own. Other people have a melody that mixes so well with ours it creates a new song, beautiful and powerful and in it, we find love and friendship.

The greatest of these songs shape us just as the song makers shape our lives. Their music is so embedded in our souls that we feel it as our own, we feel the absence of the person as a hole in our heart. Their death leaves us feeling broken and unmade.

Grief fills us with pain, numbness, confusion, anger, sorrow. guilt and a million other emotions. While our minds are injured from the mental loss we may forget the spiritual wound.

It is common for the possessions of the departed to be shared amongst those close, and while the physical object may remind us of their physical presence we may be unaware we are also feeling the resonance of their music.

While we are alive every object and every person we come in contact with is touched by our soul-song. The more we feel for a thing, the more we imprint ourselves upon it. Why else would somethings be passed down through generations unless we felt drawn to the music of our forebears?

So take the time in your grief to temper the pain with quiet moments to feel again the soul-song of those that have gone before. Be happy that you can feel the music that has rejoined the greater Earth-song until another time.

In any loss a space is made for more love and joy to flourish, yet we are given the memory and the resonance of those who have gone for as long as we wish.

The sun may set and the moon may fade but dawn will come again.
