Is Prayer Your Untapped Power

The Divine Knows You are Praying, Please Hold

Prayer can serve as both a mystical genie and a comfort in our lives. If you haven't yet tried it, you may be missing out on an opportunity. Most of us have asked for help from a higher power at some point in our lives, whether it be for money, love, career, or home life. However, is that the true purpose of prayer?

Firstly, prayer can be one of the few times we allow ourselves to be alone with our thoughts. It provides us with the opportunity to mentally review our lives, concerns, goals, and spiritual connections. For those of us who pray regularly, the act of praying gives us a meditative state whereby we can call on the full use of our faculties, and often solutions are found.

Within this private conversation between ourselves and our faith, we are often more honest than we would be with ourselves or other human beings. This personal truth is essential when praying if we truly want to achieve anything. Without it, the practice is pointless.

With honesty, we can truly see how our wish list aligns with our moral compass. Do we want something for ourselves that we wouldn't want for others? Are we being selfish? Do we want a change in our life or the people around us, yet are unwilling to bring about the change by our actions? We are given the freedom of choice, but are we able to set aside fear, doubt, and uncertainty to make that choice? The Divine has a path of opportunities for us all, and the hardest route often has the most rewards if we are brave enough to take it.

So what can we ask for in our private prayers? The answer is anything you want. However, in my own experience, I tend to ask for wisdom, courage, patience, humility, direction, and peace. The simplest of gifts often give much more than I expect, although I have experienced more tangible and material gifts. If you have a situation that needs resolving, try not to request your imagined 'fix' but ask for an answer. It may not be what you want, but it is likely what you need.

When the need arises, I not only ask for help from my Higher Power, but I also choose one or two crystals to support and guide me through the day. After all, we are helped if we help ourselves.

When we pray for ourselves, we are cautioned by greed and selfishness. However, no such limitations seem to apply when we pray for others. As before, the request should be the best one for resolution and not your answer.

From time to time, we may feel hard done by, that life isn't giving us a fair break. At these times, prayer can open up our minds to receive the will of our divinity, who may choose to disclose the greater plan. Remember though, your struggles may be part of the divine plan for another person, so try not to harbor a misplaced pride in your misfortune.

Probably the most neglected area of prayer for most of us is gratitude. We may remember to give thanks when good things happen or we see disaster averted, but gratitude should also be given for the unseen battles won. The power of the Divine is at work, and we are foolish if we think we see everything that is done for us.

It has been written that we should pray for the tools to do what we need to do each morning, then what we want. We should go and do what needs to be done, and only then do what we want. Each evening, I ask for guidance where I was lacking, ask for forgiveness where I have done wrong, and give forgiveness where I believe I was wronged in return. Prayer is a great booster of spirit, will, and strength, so use it when the need takes you and give thanks.
