"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands but in having new eyes." – Marcel Proust />
A person dying of thirst takes water, and it is the nectar of the gods. A starving person eats bread, and it tastes like heaven. We, neither hungry nor thirsty, rarely glimpse how powerful our feelings can be. The satisfied may drink the same water, eat the same bread, and yet they don't experience anything close to those who lack.
There are beautiful experiences to be had if we change our perspective. It is far too easy for us to fall prey to the regular and the mundane. We devalue everything around us so much that we might as well paint it gray. Admittedly, it may not be appropriate to drink in every image on every journey, but we can take a few moments to savor a few simple things.
Rewriting how we think and feel isn't a quick fix but an enduring solution to feeling fulfilled and connected. We have been influenced, up to now, into what we have become. To rewrite our program while we get on with our lives requires time and commitment. Only then can we take steps to be what we can become.
Our eyes see with cells called Rods and Cones. While the Rods give us sharpness and night sight, Cones bestow color and depth. Each serves us well to enable us to perceive our world. Our brain is divided into the left and right. The left provides logic, while the right gives us creativity and insight. Whereas our eyes automatically select the correct option, our minds may not.
Physically we are designed for our purpose, to think, to act, create, and in all ways fulfill our material needs. On a mental level, we also need to feed our brains, formulate thoughts, and to discover ideas. Sudoku, crosswords, even TV quizzes may keep us from the gates of apathy but, we find it all too easy to walk through.
For a spiritual person, religion is the sodoku of the soul. Treated as a rule book rather than a guide for our behavior, it puts a finite limit on our potential. Until we change our perspective, we will exist under the rules of man. It is time to live with the infinite possibilities of life.
