Sagittarius

Sagittarius is the ninth sign of the zodiac, symbolised by the Archer, often pictured as a centaur drawing a bow.

People born from November 22 to December 21 are Sagittarians.

Sagittarius is a Fire sign, which in astrology describes a more passionate, quick-to-act temperament, and Mutable, meaning adaptable and comfortable adjusting to change. It's ruled by Jupiter.

Where the Symbol Comes From

Sagittarius constellation archer symbolThe centaur traces back to Chiron, an immortal figure in Greek mythology who, unlike most of his kind, was known for wisdom rather than wildness — teaching medicine, music, and archery to heroes including Achilles. After being accidentally wounded by a poisoned arrow, Chiron gave up his immortality, and Zeus placed him among the stars as the archer.

What Sagittarius Is Like

In astrology, Sagittarius is associated with optimism and a hunger for the bigger picture — someone drawn to travel, ideas, and honesty, often blunt to a fault. That same openness has a less comfortable side. The urge to always be moving toward the next thing can make Sagittarius restless, and its bluntness can land as tactless when it isn't tempered by tact.

Strengths: optimistic, honest, adventurous, open-minded, generous with enthusiasm.
Challenges: can be restless, tactless, or prone to overpromising.

Sagittarius in Love

In relationships, Sagittarius tends to want a partner who feels more like a fellow adventurer than a fixed routine — someone to explore ideas and places with, rather than settle into predictability alongside. That can make Sagittarius a fun, expansive partner who keeps things from going stale. It can also make commitment feel like a cage if it isn't handled carefully, and Sagittarius's honesty, while usually well-meant, can come out blunter than intended in a tender moment.

Sagittarius in Friendship

Among friends, Sagittarius is often the one pushing for the spontaneous trip or the honest conversation everyone else has been avoiding. That directness is usually refreshing, and Sagittarius rarely holds a grudge or plays games. The friction tends to show up when that same directness lands without enough tact, or when Sagittarius's need for freedom means they're harder to pin down than a friend might like.

Compatibility

Sagittarius is often considered compatible with Aries and Leo, which share its Fire element and its appetite for adventure. Aquarius and Libra are also traditionally associated with Sagittarius, bringing an intellectual curiosity that can complement its enthusiasm. Compatibility in astrology, however, depends on much more than Sun signs alone.

What Makes Sagittarius Different

Sagittarius's opposite sign is Gemini — the two sit directly across the zodiac wheel from each other, and are traditionally read as a study in contrast: Sagittarius's search for the big, unifying truth against Gemini's delight in scattered, varied detail. Sagittarius is also the only Mutable Fire sign. Aries, as Cardinal Fire, starts things, and Leo, as Fixed Fire, sustains them, while Sagittarius, as Mutable Fire, is built to keep moving on to the next thing rather than stay with any one for too long.
