Introduction to Auras

Aura - 1. the distinctive atmosphere or quality that seems to surround and be generated by a person, thing, or place.
           2. (in spiritualism and some forms of alternative medicine) a supposed emanation surrounding the body of a living creature and regarded as an essential part of the individual.

The same 'supposed emanation' is perhaps why we refer to people as glowing or dark or radiant. Science tells us that we are composed of atoms, electrons, and energy and yet people don't doubt that or question the radiant energy we give off. The sensation of a hug transcends the physical and most of us have felt a mental jolt when making kirlian contact with a stranger, these are not unknown or rare occurences and allow us to accept that the energies exist so let us simplify things and call them auras. You may want to look into Kirlian Photography if you need a scientific outlook or the teachings of the Chinese Qigong and Qi or Chi.

A physically, mentally, and spiritually healthy individual radiates an aura of wellness, calm, and serenity and when we encounter such a person we can feel uplifted and benefited; they radiate an aura of calm. If someone is ill or troubled they often radiate their malaise and we feel a need for caution, or if someone close then concern about their welfare.

While it is human nature to quantify, qualify and measure everything, that is not the purpose of these pages. We are looking at auras as a listener hears a piece of music rather than a scientist examing sound waves. It exists, we feel it and we want to know it and encompass the knowledge as a gift in our lives.

We already use our auras on a regular basis in giving or receiving a massage, stroking a pet or a simple handshake connects our auras to another living thing. Animals have strong auras and petting them strengthens and recharges our own, fortunately with no detriment to our pets. The same applies when having a massage and to a lesser degree when giving one, and when we shake hands we get a direct connection with another person's aura and it gives us subtle clues as to their intentions, mood, and well being. Aura sensitivity allows us to read another person in this way in fact a negative aura can feel like an assault on our own.

Touch So how do we gain sensitivity, strength, and defense with auras? We gain physical strength by exercise, mental acuity by using our brains, and we strengthen our auras by feeling them and using them. Let us begin by actually feeling your own aura, because of our nature it is easier to feel an aura touching us (even our own) rather than feeling it when actively trying to touch.

As usual, get comfortable and remove any unnecessary distractions. Close your eyes and point a finger down into the palm of your other hand, then slowly bring your finger down until you sense it on your palm, this will be before physical contact is made if you are focused. It may feel like an electrical buzz or a tickling sensation. Switch hands, you may find one hand more sensitive than the other.

Continue with the exercise using other fingers, their sides, and working up to the palm of your hands. You will find that with practice you will feel the energy on both the receiving hand (receptor) and the delivering hand (transmitter). Use your hands over your arms, legs, and the rest of your body, if possible bring this into your morning meditation, prayer, or ritual. This can also be done with a willing partner if circumstances permit.

Now practice extending the power from the transmitting hand, keeping it further away, and using your mind to imagine the energy extending until felt. This is easiest when flowing energy from your fingertips at the beginning but persevere and it can be achieved from the open palm and even the chest or face in time.

on film The next stage really requires a partner to fully explore. After gaining some mastery on sending and receiving auras, the next step is to send emotion with the aura, hence the need for someone to receive the 'vibe'. Focus on clear, positive emotions and images, hold them in your thoughts and then try and project them through the aura energy on to your partner's skin. Imagine playing an old fashion film recording on them, may help.

You should take it in turns with this exercise, both read the energy or imagine given until you feel comfortably proficient before attempting the next step. Up to now we have only been using passive receptors and applied our thoughts to just feeling what is transmitted, we now move on to defense and how we choose to deal with the transmissions.

This is a two-person exercise, the transmitter should focus on a steady pressure, like a slow push on the center of the receptors torso who will focus their aura and apply a defense. There are five types of defense to try applying, counter pressure, mentally pushing back as if holding a shield. Block defense, where the receptor builds a solid wall of auric energy that forms between receptor and transmitter. Deflection is the forming of a mental umbrella which divides the psychic assault and forces it to flow around the receptor. Absorption, whereby the receptor allows the force to be swallowed up inside them and absorbs the psychic energy, use with extreme caution or not at all. Finally, the use of an appropriate crystal to absorb the negative energy away from the receptor, Black Tourmaline is perfect for this task.
